The 4th of July is like New Year’s Eve to me — Amateur Night. I don’t need to be out and about at night on the 4th of July.
Instead, I’ll take myself out to lunch.
I had heard that Skinny Louie’s was finally open. I don’t get the big deal about smash burgers. It’s just a burger. There’s an entirely different chain called Smashburger. So I guess this approach to burgers is a trend.
Smash burgers are not big fat burgers but they’re burgers just the same.
The interior of Skinny Louie’s is really annoying. There’s nowhere to stand. The queue was just a mess of people standing around. Frankly, I felt claustrophobic.
It was finally my turn. They only have Coke and Sprite in glass bottles, plus water in those new-fangled cans. The sodas and water are not cheap. (Later, I figured out that they have a free water cooler over by the ketchup.) You place your order for your burger and fries and they give you a number. They yell numbers into a microphone that hangs from the ceiling. I wonder how the neighbors across the lawn feel about this number yelling all day long.
I get some Skinny Louie sauce with my burger and fries. I think it’s just ketchup and mayo mixed together.

Finally, they call 65. I grab my bag and take a seat outside. I just got a single cheeseburger. It’s nice. The fries are nice too but maybe a little overcooked for me.
What fascinates me most is the number of kids working behind the counter. How many kids does it take to make burgers? Maybe they were training people? It’s odd.
It was hard to take pics because the place was so crowded.
The Verdict: I hope you’ve enjoyed my review of Skinny Louie’s in West Palm Beach. I’m not really a burger person. But this was interesting. I do like the simplicity of the menu (there are very few choices) but I sorta wonder how quickly it will get old. That being said, they are in a great location for the concerts and stuff that happen on this part of Clematis. I want them to be successful because I want all of Clematis Street to be successful and sometimes I just really worry about this street. Too much empty real estate. So…fingers crossed for your, Skinny Louie’s!
